Hi

By shere chance I ended up on your site. I was looking for a tool that would produce an HMI for my heating system, showing valves opening and closing and possibly controling them.

I have been using the Dallas/Maxim one wire sensors for some time as they are so cheap and easy to install. But the problem always comes down to software. There is some nice kit on the market (hobby boards) but only software to monitor temperatures not to take control.

Have you any plans to start using this kit ?

Thanks

Hi Keith,

Thanks for your message. The problem of course is that there is a lot of equipment on the market, and only so much budget to go around. In your case though, there are other users whom have asked about 1 wire, so it appears there is some demand. Can you refer us to the specific kit that you are working with?

Hi

Thanks for the quick response.

Best places to go are

http://www.hobby-boards.com/catalog/index.php where there are pre made kits for input/output, or you can buy the components.

or the Maxim site
http://www.maxim-ic.com/products/1-wire/

where there is the technical info and software development kits and example programs.

Hi Keith,

Ok, we're looking into it, but just so you know turnaround will probably not be very quick due to procurement delays and other projects. We'll update this discussion when the time comes.

Hi Keith,

I have decided to use 1-wire for my project.

Here are two more equipment sources:

http://www.ibuttonlink.com/

http://www.aagelectronica.com/aag/index.html

Felix

If you want bits i've found Hobby Boards to be the quickest and cheapest, if you buy directly from Ibutton it can take ages (weeks)

Hello,
Don't know if this helps, but I am using one wire components for temperature, wind direction and wind speed. In most cases, you can buy boards which connect to your one wire devices and allows your computer to connect to the board via serial or USB. This then allows you to connect and view the status (values) of the device via a terminal connection.

The software that I have written takes these values and populates it to a database every minute. From here Mango can connect and log values ect.

Serotonin has begun work on a 1-wire data source. It will not be available in the next version (scheduled for release in the next few weeks) but should be in the following release.

This data source will only be available via serial (RS232/485) interface, due to the insufficient support for USB in Java, but otherwise will support 1-wire functionality for discovery, reading and writing.

Hi

Whilst i don't have a clue how to programme i think you will find what you need at http://www.maxim-ic.com/products/1-wire/software/

The Java components are there to download.

Cheers
